The Brew House, a Pittsburgh based artist space and arts incubator houses an artist residency named the Distillery Program. When the Brew House lost their funding the residency for 2009/2010 looked as though it may not happen. Artist and resident candidate Dave English opened his studio, the Schmutz Lodge up to the other artists and together they worked to create pieces that reflected the potential loss of their residency and the new transient nature of the Distillery Program. Their opening on Feb. 5th 2010 during the first night of the blizzard of 2010 had between 80 and 100 guests and was a critical success. This collection documents some of the building and instillation of the work as well as the events of the opening.
